Best practices for asking for reviews
- Ask within a few hours of the visit or delivery, while the experience is fresh. Response rates drop fast after a couple of days.
- Ask every customer, not only the ones you think are happy. Filtering who gets the request (review gating) is against Google's policies.
- Never offer discounts, gifts or entries in exchange for a review, and never ask for a specific star rating.
- Use a link that opens the review form directly, so leaving a review takes one tap instead of a search.
- Send one follow-up at most, a few days later. More than that feels like pressure.
- Only text or WhatsApp customers who agreed to hear from you, and follow your local rules on marketing messages.
What makes a review request work
The requests that work are short, personal and sent at the right moment. Use the customer's first name, mention the visit, say a review takes about a minute, and make the link the only call to action.
The channel matters less than the timing. A text sent an hour after an appointment usually beats a polished email that arrives a week later.
SMS, email or WhatsApp?
SMS gets read fastest and suits appointments, home services and anywhere you already have a phone number. Keep it to one segment (160 characters) when you can; the counter above shows the length and the encoding.
Email suits B2B, e-commerce and anything with an invoice; it has room for a short thank-you. WhatsApp is the default in much of Latin America and Europe and works well when you already talk to customers there.
Stay within Google's review policies
Google prohibits review gating (asking only satisfied customers, or sending unhappy ones somewhere else first), incentives of any kind, and asking employees or relatives to post reviews. Breaking these rules can get reviews removed or your profile restricted.
Every message in this generator asks neutrally for honest feedback. ReputRadar follows the same rules: review links and QR codes go to every customer, and you see every review that comes in so you can answer it.
